I can’t believe this! I had already given up in my mind and that’s why I only have two first pages ready for the next episode and the episode needs to be online TOMORROW!
It’s 6pm now and tomorrow at 6pm I need to have the new episode ready… I have a day.

Tosiaan siellä on nyt sellainen homma, että sarjakuvat on jaettu pareihin, ja vain toinen parista voi päästä läpi, joten menkää toki äänestämään mun sarjistani, että voitan parini! Mun suurin unelmani olis päästä top 4:n joukkoon, mutta jo tää top 16 on jotain ihan älytöntä ja en tiedä mitä tekisin ku oon niin innoissani! Kiitos jo etukäteen kaikille äänestäneille! Myös sarjakuvan jakaminen somessa auttaa mua eteenpäin ihan sikana, joten nyt vaan twiittaamaan, tumblaamaan ja facettamaan!

So the thing is, the comics are divided in pairs and only one of the pair can get through. So go and vote for me so I’ll win my pair! My biggest dream is to get to top 4, but this top 16 is already amazing. I don’t know what to do because I’m so excited! Also sharing this comic in social media will help me a lot, so now open your twitter, tumblr, and facebook!

One morning. (H-P on a computer looking bored.) ”I’ll just check my email first and then start working…
Email.com, from muurla comics school, Hi! Would you like to review our book in your blog? We’ll send it to you!
”I’m pretty sure it’s kind of mediocre book, but I want to support beginning comic artists, so yes!”
Couple of weeks later after coming home from Chicago. (H-P looking really tired. In the corner of the panel there’s a book on the table.) ”Horrible jetlag. I haven’t slept for 20 hours.”
(H-P holding a book and looking happy.) ”Oh wow! The Muurla book is here!”
(H-P sits down with the book in hands.) ”Well I’ll just read it right away.”
A moment later: (Back of H-P’s head reading a book.) ”It wasn’t mediocre, it was GOOD!”

(Picture of a book with another page having more realistic drawing and another page having a stick figure.) ”The book in total surprised me! Normally comic school books don’t have such a consistent quality in stories and drawings.”
(H-P drawn in many different styles from anime to realism.) ”The drawing quality was consistent through the book. There were many different styles, but it seemed that everyone knew their own style really well.”(H-P looking at the book looking thoughtfull.) ”The quality of the stories varied a bit more.”
(H-P looking like she is confused.) ”Sometimes I didn’t understand anything that happened. Personally I think good drawings unfortunaltely don’t save a comic if I can’t understand what’s going on.”
(H-P looking at a comic character who’s wearing an outdoors jacket and a beanie and is standing in a forest.) H-P: ”Best story was by Emilia Karvanen. It was called ”Luola” (cave).” ”It had good drawings too! it was clear and funny!” The character: ”I don’t want to pick berries I want to do LARP!”

(H-P together in a panle with a dark looking character.) H-P: ”From the drawing styles, I liked Kajo Vuolasvirta’s comic ”Luota”(trust)  the most.” ”It also had a clear plot.” The character: ”It’s difficult to draw me with a thin pen.”

Olen mukana tällaisessa kansainvälisessä nettisarjiskisassa, jossa on aiheena sci-fi. Noh, minä tietysti teen sci-fiä ja huumoria, koska huumori on asia jota rakastan piirtää. Joka tapauksessa, kilpailu toimii sillä tapaan, että alussa puolet pisteistä kisassa tulee yleisön aktiivisuudesta ja lopussa 100% pisteistä tulee pelkästään yleisöltä. Siksi siis pyydän teitä, jos pidätte sarjakuvasta, kirjautukaa sisään LINE webtoonsin sivuille vaikkapa facebook tai twitter tunnuksillanne ja klikkailkaa niitä sydämiä, kirjoitelkaa kommentteja, tykkäilkää muiden kommenteista ja laittakaa sarjakuvalleni sen verran tähtiä mitä koette sen ansaitsevan! Kaikki teidän aktiivisuutenne auttaa minua eteenpäin kisassa!

I’m taking part in this international comics competition with sci-fi theme. I’m making a humor sci-fi comic, because that’s what I love, humor. Anyways, the competition works in a way that at first half of the points come from the activity of the readers! And in the end 100% of the points come from the audience! So that’s why I ask, if you like the comic, log in the LINE webtoons web page with your facebook or twitter account and click the hearts, write comments, like other people’s comments and rate my comic with stars. All your activity will help me forward in the competition!

Here’s the second part of my trip to Chicago. Third part will be in my blog in monday. So I was in Chicago for a week to meet people from the Ladydrawers collective and take part in Chicago Alternative Comics Expo (CAKE) as an exhibitor. In this part, there’s finally the trip to CAKE!

Elikkäs, olin tossa just viikon Chicagossa käymässä tapaamassa feministisarjistyyppejä Ladydrawersista ja käymässä Chicago Alternative Comics Expossa. Oli ihan sika kivaa, paras ulkomaanreissuni ikinä. Tässä matkapäiväkirjani, joka on nyt valitettavasti vain englanniksi. Saatan kääntää tämän jossain vaiheessa, mutta en vielä. Lisäksi matkapäiväkirjani on 54 sivua pitkä, joten laitan sen tänne nettiin kahdessa tai kolmessa pätkässä. Tässä eka pala.

So I was in Chicago to meet with the Ladydrawers feminist comic artists and go to the Chicago Alternative Comics Expo. It was so much fun, my best trip outside Finland ever! Here’s my travel diary which is 54 pages long, so I’ll probably put it here in my blog in 2 or 3 parts. Here’s the first one.

Siinä oli eka osa, 19 sivua. Huh. Ihan vaan tiedoksi niin mun asuntoni on asunto, jota ihmiset yleensä pitää tosi isona, mutta ei, Raen, Faithin ja Amyn asunto oli niin iso että mun asunto olis mahtunu sen sisään 2½ kertaisesti.
Lisäksi huomaatte varmaan että piirsin aika paljon ihan vaan alkumatkasta ennenku olin edes USAssa, se johtui siitä että 11 tunnin lentomatkalla ei paljon muuta tekemistä ollut.

So here was the first part, 19 pages. Wow. Just so you know, my appartment in Finland is normally considered really huge, but Rae’s, Faith’s and Amy’s appartment was big enough to take 2½ of my appartments in.
You may also notice I drew quite a lot in the airplane before I even got to USA, well, that’s because the flight was 11 hours and I really didn’t have anything better to do there.

Olen nimittäin juuri nyt Ruotsissa Tukholman sarjisfestareilla ja tämä päivitys on ajastettu ilmestymään blogiini jo viime maanantaina. Joka tapauksessa, tämä on tarina äidistäni ja äidilleni.

Little H-P being more content with her work holding a paper. ”Thank you mom. Without your honesty I propably wouldn’t have studied drawing as hard.” H-P: ”Truth doesn’t always feel nice, but if people just go easy on you, you don’t learn anything.”

Sain äidiltäny myös kehuja toki, mutta vain silloin kun niille oli tarve. Äitini sanoi minulle suoraan jos jokin asia ei mennyt hyvin ja se sai minut kestämään rakentavaa kritiikkiä paljon paremmin. Osaan kuunnella kritiikkiä hyvin ja ottaa siitä opikseni, kiitos äitini rehellisyyden.

Kuten viime postauksessani sanoin, olen pysytellyt poissa sarjisblogeista, mutta se ei tarkoita sitä, ettenkö tekisi koko ajan lisää LGBT/feminismi/aktivismi-sarjakuvia! Olen nimittäin tehnyt niitä nyt vain enemmän englanniksi ja tumblrin puolelle. Tässä yksi hieman keveämpi suosikkini.
